Our next show is at the Darlington New Orleans jazz club on Saturday afternoon, 7 December. The club is based at St Augustine's church hall, Larchfield Street, Darlington DL3 7TG, where there there is ample free parking (and it's only a 15-minute walk from Darlington railway station). The club serves teas, coffees and alcoholic drinks at the bar, and although food isn't served, you are welcome to bring your own sandwiches! As ever, we will feature our singer Caroline and the show will be presented by Steve Andrews.
We'll be playing our usual mix of classic ragtime, 1920s hot dance music and early 1930s swing. Tickets (£10) are available on the door, which opens at 12 noon, and the show starts at 12.30pm. We hope you can join us!
Also advance notice of our annual concert at the Gosforth Civic Theatre in Newcastle, on Friday evening, 21 March 2025, again featuring our special guest Martin Litton on piano. Martin is an internally renowned pianist, arranger and bandleader, specializing in all the classic jazz styles from ragtime to swing, and his performance with the orchestra last year was magnificent. We look forward to working with him again! Tickets (£20) are available on the night or in advance from Dave Kerr on ragtimedavekerr@aol.com or 0191 281 4011.
Phil Rutherford
The New Century Ragtime Orchestra
This twelve-piece orchestra plays music from the dawn of Ragtime in the 1890s through to the early Swing Era of the 1930s.
Lovingly recreated from the original sheet music and painstakingly scored for full ensemble, we perform not only ragtime composers such as Scott Joplin but also the classic jazz and hot dance music of the 1920s, and the early swing of Duke Ellington.
