Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. RIP Redd Holt (16 May 1932 - 23 May 2023)

Isaac 'Redd' Holt played drums on Ramsey Lewis' The In Crowd. Born in Mississippi, as a child Holt moved to Chicago. In 1955 he enlisted in the US Army after which he and bassist Eldee Young hooked up with Lewis. 

Commercial success followed and after a while Holt and Young left Lewis to form their own band, Young-Holt Unlimited, which proved popular with jazz-soul/soul audiences, charting with Soulful Strut. In later years Holt worked in music education and, until the pandemic hit, sustained a twenty-year trio residency at the East Bank Club in Chicago. Russell
