A member of some of the most influential groups in modern jazz - Garnett recorded with, among others, Freddie Hubbard, Art Blakey, Charles Mingus, Pharoah Sanders, Alex Hill and Miles Davis. It was with the latter that he played on the controversial album On the Corner.
In more orthodox settings he had a big gutsy tenor sound that personified the jazz/rock/fusion genre.
Carlos Garnett was 84. Sadly missed.

My favourite electric Miles album (unless you include Miles in the Sky).
