Two musicians not entirely unknown in the north east. Kitchman honed his skills in local gigs and jams. London based Heinen, a Prof at Trinity Laban, works well with Kitchman and the duo have played several venues together 'up north' achieving a rapport that makes this collaboration rather special.
They interact, seemingly, intuitively making for compelling listening. Neither go for the 'show-off' route although both have the technique to take that option but, instead, concentrate on complementing what the other is doing. Their lines are such that you tend to wonder if they have three hands.
Having said all that and, brilliantly as it's done, and much as I enjoyed it, I struggled to play it again.
However, persevere I did and upon second listening I got more into it although my feet weren't tapping. Of course this isn't an album aimed at getting your toes twitching, more one that's aimed at your cerebral musical sensitivities and, on that score it hits the jackpot. Lance
