The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Roberto Cassani and Fraser A Campbell - Goodness Of The Human Heart


An interesting preview of a debut album by two musicians - one born in Perth and one who moved there from Italy, possibly having heard how fair the maids are up there north of the border which, for the geographically illiterate, means Scotland. They came together during the Covid thing when Roberto Cassani decided that the Williamsburg Bridge was a bit of hike to jet off to with his bass, what with the respect that baggage handlers don't always show to musical instruments and the lack of a decent haggis, so he opted for a park bench in Perth instead.

This was fortuitous as, had he opted to jet off to NYC the chances are that he and saxophonist Fraser A Campbell's paths would have crossed in mid-flight and the park bench wouldn't have played host to their initial collaboration and Sunnyside Records would have missed out on yet another potential  Scottish success story. Maybe, in years to come, there will be pilgrimages by saxophonists and bass players just to sit on that very same bench.
