This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Natalie Williams @ the 606 (livestream) March 24

Natalie Williams (vocals); Phil Peskett (piano); Al Cherry (guitar); Conor Chaplin (bass guitar); Martyn Kaine (drums).

Having heard Ms Williams many times over the years at venues as diverse as Cadogan Hall in Chelsea, Hoochie Coochie and Sage Gateshead I knew I wouldn't be disappointed by this one hour plus livestream from the 606 and I wasn't. 

The singer blends an eclectic mix of jazz, soul and funk all delivered with much aplomb. Supported superbly by four of London's finest - drummer Kaine initially honed his skills in Whitley Bay - she delivered a programme that surely appealed to a whole cross-section of listeners.

Numbers included: Joy; Dat Dere; April in Paris; People Make the World Go Round; Never Look Over Your Shoulder and Somewhere among others. Lance
