This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. The EFG LJF on the BBC (Friday 12)

This evening the BBC commits several hours to this year's EFG London Jazz Festival. At 7:30 Radio 3 in Concert comes live from the Royal Festival Hall. Jazz Voice hosted by Jumoké Fashola celebrates the art of the jazz singer. Guy Barker directs the London Jazz Festival Orchestra. Artists appearing include Jazz FM Award winner Ego Ella May and, fresh from her triumphant debut at Ronnie Scott's, the fabulous Georgia Cécile. At eleven o'clock Jumoké Fashola presents J to Z Late. The line-up includes Sheila Maurice-Grey and Xhosa Cole. The eight hour night shift (the programming ends at 7:00am Saturday!) features mixtapes from the likes of Moses Boyd and Zara McFarlane.
 

Meanwhile, on BBC 4 there is Bublé at the BBC (7:00pm), Keith Jarrett: the Art of Improvisation (9:00pm) and at half past ten, the earlier Radio 3 in Concert broadcast pops up on the television under the guise Jazz Voice 2021: from the London Jazz Festival. Get the coffee pot on the stove, we're in it for the long haul!  Russell
