This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Identity Parade - the Jos Q. Atkinson Orchestra

Bass player and historian John Carstairs Hallam has posted this photo of the Jos Q. Atkinson Orchestra - one of the north east's top dance bands from the 1920s onwards.

Jos Q, as he was usually known, held residencies at most of the region's venues such as the Station Hotel (formerly the LNER Hotel), the Old Assembly Rooms (a.k.a the Old Ass), Fenwick's Tea Rooms and many others as well as being first call to provide the music at that favourite habitat of Hooray Henrys and Henriettas - the Hunt Ball.

It's a big ask but hopefully someone out there can put names to the musicians in the photo.

Is the tenor Les? Feeny who had a band at the Heaton?

I think tenor is Percy Rochester,,,he always worked with JQA band…
