This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. A night in with Louis and friends (August 6)

If you're not going to a gig tonight, BBC 4 will be broadcasting the best part of three hours of jazz. Beginning at ten o'clock with Jazz Legends in Their Own Words, the Beeb's archive offers performances and interviews with the likes of Dizzy, Duke, Ella and Oscar. Following on at 11:00 it's Louis Armstrong in Concert and to close the evening it's an hour of Jazz Horns Gold (beginning at five minutes to midnight). Russell

Even if you are going to a gig tonight the chances are you will be back home to watch it or, more likely, opt to go to bed instead! I mean, come on BBC, 3 hours of jazz starting at 22:00 hours! Yet on previous Fridays you show (yawn) TOTP re-runs mid evening. I know I can do catch-ups but, after having just forked out £159 for a licence fee, I don't want to lose out on sleep as well and I've better things to do during the day than listen to what are actually repeats anyway.
