Bebop Spoken There

Abbie Finn: "Even though there's a lot of great work being done to promote women in jazz, I still come up against some attitudes! I pulled up at a recording session with my drums in the car and the studio owner said, 'I'm sorry, this space is reserved for the drummer!'" - (Jazzwise April 2023).

The Things They Say!

Hudson Music: Lance's "Bebop Spoken Here" is one of the heaviest and most influential jazz blogs in the UK.

Rupert Burley (Dynamic Agency): "BSH just goes from strength to strength".

'606' Club: "A toast to Lance Liddle of the terrific jazz blog 'Bebop Spoken Here'"

The Strictly Smokin' Big Band included Be Bop Spoken Here (sic) in their 5 Favourite Jazz Blogs.

Ann Braithwaite (Braithwaite & Katz Communications) You’re the BEST!

Holly Cooper, Mouthpiece Music: "Lance writes pull quotes like no one else!"

Jazz @ the Gala is back again - Zoë Gilby Quartet play music from Aurora and other songs

(Photo by Ken Drew)
 (Press release)

The second of the revived Lunchtime Jazz concerts at the Durham Gala is this Friday, 27 August, from 1.00 to 2.00pm. We're pleased to welcome back Zoë Gilby and her Quartet. Since featuring in the very first Lunchtime Jazz at the Gala some 7 years ago Zoë's star has continued to rise. In 2019 she received the Parliamentary Jazz Vocalist of the Year Award, since when she has released two (very different) albums.

At their 2019 Gala concert Zoë and Noel Dennis performed works from their their Aurora project, the album of which is now released. She will be playing songs from this album together one or two other surprises.

And she and Andy have not been inactive in the past 18 months of the pandemic, when live public performances were restricted. Together they performed 40 weekly live-streamed 'From the Living Room' gigs, rarely repeating a song. And together with Mark Williams (remotely) they developed a new project of more contemporary music entitled Living In Shadows, an album of which is also now available.

So welcome back to Live Music again.

Zoë Gilby (vocals); Andy Champion (bass);
Mark Williams (guitar); Richard Brown (drums)
