This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Aurora with Zoe Gilby & Noel Dennis Friday 16 April, 8:00pm, Live on Gosforth Civic Theatre's YouTube Channel - Free to Watch.

After discussions with the Artist and Jazz North East we are making tonight's live stream of Zoe Gilby's Aurora album launch free to view on our YouTube Channel.

This means if you've bought a ticket you will be receiving a full refund and you can still watch tonight's performance from 8:00pm here.

And those of you who haven't got a ticket can now tune in for free and bring some live music in to your home to soundtrack your Friday night!

We have made the decision to allow as many people as possible see the band and their new music, and hopefully increase sales of their new album to a greater extent. We're also aware that it's been a very long nearly 14 months and wanted to keep in the spirit of bringing live performances in to your home for free until we can reopen.

Vocalist and songwriter Zoë Gilby has teamed up with jazz trumpet / flugelhorn player Noel Dennis, double bassist Andy Champion, guitarist Mark Williams and drummer Russ Morgan for this exciting new project. “Aurora” Inspired by the compositions of Noel’s trumpet and flugelhorn hero, Tom Harrell. This melodic, sharply conceived music has been augmented with lyrical interpretations written by Zoë, Illustrating further Harrell’s intricate ideas and serene delivery. Tom Harrell is widely recognised as one of the most creative and dynamic jazz instrumentalists and composers of our time with a career spanning nearly 50 years. The innovative unparalleled harmonic and rhythmic sophistication within Tom Harrell’s writing will be performed and lyrically heightened by this stellar line up.​
