This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Farewell Peter Wright

Sad news indeed. I think bass player, Phil Smith, said it all about Pete quite succinctly: 

"Very saddened to hear of the passing of the trumpeter Peter Wright. Peter was a cornerstone of the northeast New Orleans jazz scene for decades. Always encouraging, he did so much to make me feel welcome when I first began sitting in with bands. He was a sensitive player and carried hundreds of tunes in his head. I never heard him play the same thing twice. It was an education and a privilege to play with this man. RIP Peter". 


The Vieux Carré Jazzmen were setting up for their weekly Thursday afternoon session at The Holystone when Liz Bacon arrived and told us the devastating news. It was a 'head-in-hands' moment for everyone in the band. We dedicated yesterday's session to Pete and his family. Liz played a few traditional spiritual/gospel numbers including 'Over in the Gloryland' and 'Royal Telephone'.

Sadly missed. 

Funeral details will be announced soon.
