This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Kurt Rosenwinkel @ Sage Gateshead (Saturday 28)

Since the early 90s Kurt Rosenwinkel has released a steady stream of albums as leader or in collaboration with others and clocked up 150-plus sessions as a sideman. Now in his late forties, the Pennsylvania-born guitarist is an influential figure on the contemporary jazz scene and a first appearance in the region this weekend is likely to result in guitarists from all points heading to Sage Gateshead's Northern Rock Foundation Hall. 

From Berklee student to a member of Gary Burton's touring band, Rosenwinkel never looked back. Associations with Paul Motian, Joe Henderson, Mark Turner, Seamus Blake, Larry Goldings, Chris Potter and Joshua Redman, to name but a few, suggest he works with the best and they with him. Other than Pat Metheny it is hard to think of another guitarist who could generate such interest.
   
Bandit 65 is Rosenwinkel's current trio project featuring Tim Motzer (guitar, guitar syth, electronics) and Gintas Janusonis (drums, percussion).
