This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Frog and Henry @ the Black Swan - Tonight!

Frog and Henry made a lasting impression earlier this year when the band performed at Darlington New Orleans Jazz Club. The New Orleans based five piece outfit returns to the region tonight (Wednesday Sept. 4) to entertain an expectant crowd of keen listeners and dancers at the Black Swan on Westgate Road in Newcastle. 

An American, two Canadians, a German and Britain’s Ewan Bleach will play a selection of familiar and not so familiar numbers from the early years of the twentieth century. Bleach (reeds) is an energetic showman while his North American band mates adopt a more laid back approach. Canadian Dave Neigh plays, perhaps that should be ‘operates’, his custom built tuba machine using a series of pedals and leg attachments, somehow managing to simultaneously play banjo!
