CoCo Rouzier w. Pete Gilligan Trio @ The Cherry Tree - November 8

CoCo Rouzier (vcl); Pete Gilligan (pno)); Neil Harland (bs); Rob Walker (dms).
(Review by Lance).
Question: What could be better than listening to CoCo Rozier and the Pete Gilligan Trio as I did last week at the Jazz Café?
Answer: Listening to CoCo Rouzier with the Pete Gilligan Trio whilst fine dining on Pan Fried King Prawns in spicy Arabian sauce, fennel and shallots; Bistro Rump Steak w. traditional garnish and fries and, to finish, Eton Mess.
The trio warmed us up with On the Sunny Side of the Street setting the stage for CoCo to be greeted with an appreciative welcome from the audience (several had been at the Jazz Café on Friday and wanted more - they got it!)
Although her programme was relatively unchanged - All of Me; 'T ain't Nobody's Business if I do and Let's Face the Music and Dance being new additions - the more spacious  room allowed her to mingle with the audience even to have a dance with one of them and a canoodle with another!
The rapport was there. In response to a request from the chef for a Beyoncé song she replied, "When you can cook fried chicken like my momma does I'll sing Beyoncé!"
Needless to say, the Gilligan Trio once again provided solid support, this time with Neil Harland on bass. Neil's bowed bass solo on It Don't Mean a Thing - a highlight.
By the time the evening drew to a close with What'd I Say? there were dancers shaking it about - CoCo is also adept in that department. Was that it? You bet your life it wasn't! More! More! More! they shouted. So off they went again. In  the cold light of morning, the name of the tune escapes me but it was a soul classic I'm sure and if it wasn't it is now!
Her next gig is in Beijing!
Lance.
