This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Sad News on Ray Truscott.

Ray passed away in the early hours of yesterday. This is the saddest thing.
He was a phenomenal musician / trailblazer and I know that I was always proud to be in his company.
Although I`d only known him for a couple of years, I wish that we had crossed paths much, much, earlier.
I know that all who knew him will be saddened.

Sad news indeed. A fine bass guitarist, he will be remembered from his early day with Alan Glen to recent sessions at the Jazz Café and the 'Chilli'. He will also be remembered in Florida where he spent many Summers escaping our Winters. RIP Ray. A proper obituary will be posted as facts and comments are collated. We loved you even though I did usually spell your surname wrong. Sadly, I won't be able to make that mistake again...

A friend of mine who is friendly with Ray & his wife Sylvie (adjacent allotments) has just contacted me with the sad news that Ray has just died from cancer. She’s not sure how many in the local jazz community would be aware of this.
