This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Darlington’s Crown Inn Glory

The Crown Inn, Manfield is celebrating a win double with a beer festival throughout the bank holiday weekend. The Crown, a regular winner of Camra awards, has done it again. The Darlington branch of Camra (Campaign for Real Ale) has once again recognised the Crown as Darlington Country Pub of the Year and, as a bonus, landlord Peter Hynes has scooped the Cider Pub of the Year award.
The festival makes for a timely celebration with up to sixteen real ales (and five ciders) to sample. Bebop Spoken Here readers can get along to try the brews today - Sunday, May 3 - and hear the fantastic Smokin’ Spitfires (evening) and on Monday afternoon the veteran Tees Valley Jazzmen will entertain the discerning. Beer, smokin’ r’n’b and jazz. Happy daze!
