This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Tobin on Tour

Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2014-shortlisted singer Christine Tobin returns to Tyneside in September when she presents her A Thousand Kisses Deep salute to Leonard Cohen at Sage Gateshead in the company of Phil Robson (guitar), Dave Whitford (bass), Huw Warren (piano and accordion) and Adriano Adewale (percussion).
Before that, however, Tobin will be passing through the area, travelling between a gig at the Lescar in Sheffield on May 21 and the opening gig of her first-ever Scottish tour in Aberdeen the following evening. The Scottish tour came as a direct result of Tobin winning a Herald Angel, one of the much coveted awards presented by Glasgow-based newspaper The Herald during the Edinburgh Festival every August for her performance of A Thousand Kisses Deep on the Festival Fringe.
The Scottish tour features Tobin with Robson and Whitford and after Aberdeen, stops off in Dundee (May 23), Dingwall (24), Wick (25), Kilbarchan (27), Edinburgh (28), Dunfermline (29) and Stirling (30). Tobin also appears at Glasgow Jazz Festival in June and Brecon Jazz Festival in August.
