Last night Dulcie called into the Black Bull where Paul Booth was blowing up a storm. Dulcie had been gigging in Hexham the previous night and was en route to Rothbury tonight.
Only 28 minutes plus but I got more from these five tracks than I have done from many an album with a dozen or more tracks.
In an age of first class jazz singers - this week alone we've got Emma Smith and Jo Harrop in Newcastle and Gateshead respectively - on the strength of this recording Dulcie is a welcome addition to the A-List.
Apart from Everybody Knows (Leonard Cohen) Dulcie wrote On My Way and collaborated with Stephen Bridgland on Humility Blues, Ed Blunt on Take me to New York and Jerome Davies on Forsaken.
Paul Booth is, unsurprisingly, effective on both tenor and soprano as well as adding some pithy flute moments on the Cohen number. Bass and drums lay down the perfect cushion for the captivating vocals.
If you live in the Rothbury area then that's your evening sorted. If you don't you've still got time to dust off the flivver and drive up to Coquetdale. Lance
