A different kind of review from me this time, simply a single track which I gather is available digitally. James Hudson is a British vocalist who has featured on Jazz FM. He performs here with musicians who have appeared with the 'greats' such as Ariana Grande, Michael Bublé, and Gregory Porter. And the song? A popular musical theatre number Feed the Birds.
I was delighted to hear this song not sung by Julie
Andrews. I guess that she is a lovely person but I cannot stand her singing
because of her soprano-like precision, which makes me feel quite ill, just my
quirk. That is the least reason to like James Hudson's performance.
He sings in a pleasing tenor voice, a slow ballad version of the song, full of feeling for the lyrics, especially the line She's calling to you. The instrumentalists are no slouches either, with fine piano, lightly skimmed drums and a skilled sax solo in the second part of the tune. And they are well supported by a quintet of strings, who add a mysterious dimension. What's not to like? I think we'll hear more of James Hudson* in the future. Ann Alex
