This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Sven Klang's Kvintett - the movie

Unlike one of my colleagues who sallys forth whatever the weather I'm one who thinks that it's silly to sally when sallying forth is silly. However, this reluctance to face the elements, apart from keeping dry, turned out to be rewarding as it gave me the chance to 'surf the web' if that expression is still in vogue.

The result was that I finally discovered a full length version of that great Swedish film Sven Klang's Kvintett! 


I've waxed eloquently about this film ever since I first saw it on TV many years ago. If you haven't seen it - watch it! If you have seen it, watch it again!

It doesn't matter if your Swedish is a bit rusty, the subtitles are there and, if you've ever played in a provincial function band you could well relate to the story. Hi Lance- Re the Sven Klang movie- I still think this is the greatest jazz film ever made.
