This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Tony Kofi & NYJO presents The Thelonious Monk Orchestra at Town Hall

The Town Hall in question was, of course, the NYC Town Hall where, on Feb. 28, 1959, the original Thelonious Monk Orchestra played and recorded a memorable concert for Riverside.

Now, 63 years later, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra fronted by Tony Kofi are recreating the album for a semi-national tour that reaches the northern outpost of Leeds on Oct. 27.

As can be seen below it's a stellar line-up and should be well worth making the trip. Lance
