This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Tonite! Big bands flying high in the Sky

Tonight (Monday) on Sky Arts (8:00pm) it's Len Phillips Swing Orchestra's 100 Years of Big Bands. In a concert recorded at Cadogan Hall, Phillip's band features performances by vocalists Matt Ford and Nicola Emmanuelle. This evening's programme is the second episode of the first series (if you missed the first programme, you can catch it on Sunday 7 August at 6:45pm). In February next year Matt Ford (John Wilson Orchestra, BBC Big Band) will be the special guest of the magnificent Strictly Smokin' Big Band at Sage Gateshead.
