This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Ken Peplowski GoFundMe appeal

Steve Andrews has sent me an update on Ken Peplowski's current state of play healthwise. Ken played many times in the north east and many of us will have fond memories of hearing play at North Shields, Heaton and further afield. Undoubtedly one of the greatest clarinet/mainstream tenor players of modern times and, if his playing has given you pleasure either live or on disc, now is the time to say thank you in positive terms - Lance

In case you haven't already picked up on this, but yesterday I got a GoFundMe appeal by Frank Vignola on behalf of Ken Peplowski, who is sadly suffering from cancer - not a great prospect for a musician living in the US with no NHS and the difficulties of still having to work for a living during the unpleasant treatments. I have contributed, and if you could publish this on BSH perhaps others may also want to do so, too. Steve Andrews.

To add insult to injury, Ken has just posted that he tested positive for Covid yesterday!
