This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Georgia Cécile @ Ronnie Scott's - July 5

Georgia Cécile (vocals); Graeme Blevins (tenor sax); Euan Stevenson (piano); Andrew Robb (double bass); Max Popp (drums)

A second house of the evening with not a spare seat going. Georgia Cécile's star is firmly in the ascendant, selling out two shows at Ronnie Scott's is well within the compass of the Edinburgh-based Glaswegian. Following an early evening commitment your correspondent arrived at Frith Street some twenty minutes into Ms Cécile's second performance of the night. On stage with the award-winning vocalist was long time collaborator pianist Euan Stevenson and her regular bass and drums team, Andrew Robb and Max Popp. 

London-based Aussie Graeme Blevins contributed effective tenor sax support, occasionally stretching out with the band in full flow. Numbers from Cécile's acclaimed debut album Only the Lover Sings held the audience rapt. Newer material met with approval and her hold over all present was exemplified during a short audience participation section in which no one ducked out.                      

Georgia Cécile's rise to stardom has been chronicled in these BSH pages and it'll be interesting to see where she goes next. One of those places is certain to be right here in Soho, London, and that's a return to Ronnie Scott's. Russell
