This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Jammin' @ J's & B's - April 16

An afternoon of jazz at St James' and St Basil's Church in Fenham raising funds for the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal drew to a close with a short jam session. The house trio - Messrs Alan Law, Paul Grainger and Tim Johnston - played a few numbers in the company of David Gray, Jim McBriarty, Carrie McCullock and latterly Ruth Lambert.

Oh, Lady Be Good, with McBriarty on clarinet, sounded good. Sounding every bit as good, Showtime (that's David Gray, trombonist extraordinaire) singing It Had to be You. More, please. More vocals, this time from Jazz Co-op regular Carrie McCullock (pictured with pianist Alan Law) singing They Say It's Spring. Excellent, more please...Black Swan, Tuesday, Carrie? And to round off a full afternoon of jazz, the one and only Ruth Lambert singing Caravan. Russell
