We said 8pm but the Sage Gateshead website and the tickets said 7:30pm so we guaged our alcohol consumption for the latter time. However, come 7:30 the queue at the bar seemed to stretch across the Swing Bridge almost to the Haymarket so it turned out we were right the first time! Yes it was busy and deservedly so. Although not totally sold out, all three levels were well occupied for what was a rip-roaring sock it to 'em show.
This was a happening, an experience, a never to be forgotten event.
Great band, fantastic singers and an amazing dancer who could out tap anyone. My pulse rate kept rising from start to finish. I'd seen PMJ before and each time was so different that it was like seeing them for the first time. The music covered just about everything from pre-war Germany to Detroit via New Orleans and Chicago.
Absolutely impossible to pick any one individual out but, if pressed, I'd go for Demi whose hoofing was absolutely sensational.
I didn't take notes so although I recognised many of the tunes, apart from All About the Bass I couldn't put names to them but all were performed retro style and were none the worse for that.
It was quite a night - Lance
