This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: The Art of Tatum with Joe Webb - Newcastle & Saltburn!

A recent Kansas Smitty's session featuring pianist Joe Webb playing the music of Art Tatum brought the house down. In the company of guitarist Dave Archer and bassist Will Sach, Joe took on the challenge of trying to get somewhere near the great Art Tatum. Joe, Dave and (London-resident American) Will had so much fun they decided to take the show on the road. At lunchtime on Friday 20 August the trio will be appearing at the Lit & Phil in Newcastle and at Saltburn Arts in the evening. 

The concerts are likely to go down in folklore. In years to come people will say: I was there! To guarantee your place in jazz history book now. The Lit & Phil is certain to attract a full house.
