Bebop Spoken There

Gary Bartz: ''Charlie Parker was my introduction to the religion of music. And so he's always with me .'' - Downbeat November 2025.

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Prestigious Award for Maurice Summerfield

NAMM has confirmed Maurice Summerfield will be a recipient of their 2021 'Believe In Music Award'.  This award is to be given to Maurice in recognition of his many contributions over 50 years to the music products industry including several key NAMM programmes such as their Oral History interview project and the NAMM annual Tribute.

As a token of their appreciation,  NAMM's CEO Joe Lamond will present Maurice on January 18 with their 'Believe In Music Award' plaque in an online event.  Since, due to Covid,  NAMM  will now not gather in person for their annual NAMM Show held each January in Anaheim, Southern California. NAMM will now hold a week-long online event called 'Believe In Music Week' .  This will commence on January 18, 2021.

Founded in 1901, NAMM (The USA's National Association of Music Merchants) has had a mission to strengthen the music products industry and promote the pleasures and benefits of making music worldwide.  It is the world's largest music trade organisation.

(Congratulations Maurice. Your work has always been appreciated in  the UK, particularly in the northeast, and it is good to see it celebrated internationally - Lance.)
