The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Schreer & Garner - June 25

Tomorrow (Thursday) violinists Marie Schreer and John Garner will present a lunchtime LIVE Concerts at Home lockdown set. Marie is a member of the Royal Northern Sinfonia and regularly performs with other classical ensembles. John has performed across the globe on the classical and contemporary music concert stage and on the north east jazz scene he leads his wonderfully named Charkie Parlour quartet and has worked with the Ushaw Ensemble and in a duo with Paul Edis. 

The duo's thirty minute set is part of Newcastle University's LIVE Concerts at Home series. Their programme will include pieces written by James Brady (the London based composer/multi instrumentalist has worked with Jambone at Sage Gateshead), Bela Bartok and a Japanese lullaby. The violinists are from the same household and will be observing social distancing guidelines. The Newcastle University online YouTube concert begins at 1:15pm. When we return to normal (the 'new normal'?) make a point of getting along to one of Marie and John's gigs performing as the duo Mainly Two.
