This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Dom Pipkin: Saturday Piano Truth - June 6

A look in at Dom's for some good old down home New Orleans' piano. Dom was in great form - he had to be! I'd spun the coin and he won - sorry Slowhand.

I'm not going to go into detail - we all know Dom and what he does and there ain't no one north of Louisiana who does it better - excuse the double negs.

So we had a splendid mix of blues, rock and all things in between and either side of. The man even acknowledged BSH with a brief burst of Blue Monk.


But what emerges most from his playing - and it spans a whole gang of genres - is his obvious enjoyment of what he's doing which, ultimately transmits to the listener.

This is what it's all about - having fun (and a cat!)
