This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Multi-platform jazz

Today (Saturday 28) J to Z (Radio 3, 5:00pm) presents Kenny Barron in session and at midnight Corey Mwamba's Freeness features music from Byron Wallen's new album Portrait. Over on Radio 4 Yazz Ahmed is a guest on Loose Ends (6:15pm). And a special treat awaits at seven o'clock when trumpeter Enrico Tomasso streams a second Facebook live performance - Friday evening's live stream focussed on Louis Armstrong, this evening's subject is sure to be one of the great names - don't miss it!  

Tomorrow (Sunday) Alyn Shipton's Jazz Record Requests (Radio 3, 4:00pm) is essential listening. You could try Radio Tyneside's Geordie Hour (5:00pm, 93.6 FM) presented by Gary Hogg. It is a rather unique programme in that all of the music played has a Tyneside connection. Invariably the award-winning programme includes a jazz track. If you're a jazz musician living on, or with a link to, Tyneside why not send a CD to Mr Hogg (www.radiotyneside.co.uk)? The chances are he'll play a track to a local and online worldwide audience. Finally, at six o'clock, be sure to listen online to Mike Dixon's Jazz Time on Aycliffe Radio (www.ayclifferadio.co.uk).
