This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Ojay...from street to gallery!

In today's early spring sunshine Newcastle's jazz funk street bassist Ojay was heard laying down multiple looping layers of sound under the watchful eye of Earl Grey. Today, Monument, next week, in the shadow of Durham Cathedral, Outstanding Art. Yes, Ojay will be jumping aboard a mainline train to Durham to play a return engagement at the North Road contemporary art gallery. 


Ojay's previous gig at the swish Durham gallery almost went disastrously wrong when he boarded a north bound train. Alighting Berwick, a south bound train got our man to Durham one hour late! Next week, Saturday 14, it's likely Ojay will make it on time for an eight o'clock start. It's free admission, take the D (Durham) Train and enjoy a white wall evening of Ojay's street jazz funk.
