This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. In the days of Fenwick's news stand five magazines were stocked - the four mentioned plus Jazz Journal!

Ah yes and, before then, there wuz, Crescendo, Jazz Monthly, Jazz News,Jazz News (Irish), various short-lived mags that offered cassettes and CDs. The Canadian Coda mag has fond memories for me. A northeast MP, who, at the moment, is a Lord - and a jazz fan - did off on a political jolly to Canada and, apart from sowing the seeds for some mega (ish) trade deals which may or may not have happenned way back in the 1970s, brought me back a copy of Canada's Coda magazine. A mag I bought several times afterwards, albeit usually on my occasional visits to London as I don't think it made Fenwicks' news stand.
Nevertheless, I'm indebted to that MP for bringing, in person, that mag to my attention.

Yes, Crescendo and, at about the same time, Straight No Chaser making seven titles in all plus the cover mount CD magazine series (the CDs regularly turn up in charity shops). What was it called?
