This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Eric Burdon: Rock and Roll - Animal


Watching last night's Eric Burdon programme on BBC4 reminded me of the evening of Sept. 6, 2016, at the old Jazz Café (now the Prohibition Bar) when Burdon's band sans Eric turned up at the jam session. It was quite a night and it was good to see the very same guys on film.

Apart from that it was also good to see the old black and white footage of The Animals in New York and to hear his thoughts on Alan Price!

However, time has played tricks with Burdon's memory - Jack Teagarden didn't play with Louis Armstrong at Newcastle City Hall - it was Trummy Young. It was, in fact, Earl Hines that Teagarden toured with.
Nevertheless, an interesting insight into a singer who began his career in the old Newcastle Jazz Club.
