This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Tonight! Finn at the Fox (Feb 18)

Hexham Jazz Club's first gig of the year features the Abbie Finn Trio. Drummer Abbie will be in the company of saxophonist Harry Keeble and bassist Paul Grainger playing two sets of modern jazz standards by the likes of Joe Henderson and Wayne Shorter with, perhaps, one or two original numbers.  

Abbie studied at Leeds College of Music and Trinity Laban and is now based in Newcastle. Harry graduated from Leeds last year and is already a familiar face on the local scene having made a big impression sitting-in at numerous jam sessions around town Paul is known to all as the Main Man at the Jazz Cafe, old and new.      

Abbie is looking forward to a bumper year of engagements which includes one or two prestigious festival appearances. Be sure to catch Abbie and the boys tonight (Tuesday 18) at the Fox Inn, Hexham, 8:30 start. It's a free admission gig with donations very much appreciated. Arrive early to bag a seat!
