The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. BBC playing the changes

Changes are afoot at the Beeb. Radio 3's Jazz Now has bitten the dust, Geoffrey Smith's Jazz is soon to experience a similar fate, Jazz Record Requests is moving from its familiar Saturday slot and the network is to enter into a content sharing arrangement with Jazz FM. 

Radio 3's long-running JRR presented by Alyn Shipton moves to 4:00pm Sunday starting this coming weekend (October 6th). From November 2nd Corey Mwamba presents Freeness (midnight Saturdays). 

BBC Two and BBC Four will see 'emerging artists' appearing on Later with Jools Holland and a documentary series slated for Four includes features on Miles Davis, Bluenote and Billie Holiday. 

Meanwhile Radio 3's In Tune (Monday-Friday, 5:00pm) continues with its occasional live studio jazz sessions, the next one being Tuesday (October 1st) with an appearance by the Hackney Colliery Band.

Seen by the BBC as progress, but involves the loss of two of the best jazz programmes on Radio 3.

Jazz is surely becoming more popular yet Auntie seems to have cut back on related shows it is just so sad because they seem to channel resource into other genres which are perhaps not as popular as they believe . Lets hope they imminently have a change of heart .
