This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Dean Stockdale to open the 2017 season at the Black Bull

Two weeks today pianist Dean Stockdale returns to Blaydon Jazz Club. On Sunday, March 19, the in-demand pianist will be working with the accomplished bass and drums pairing of Mick Shoulder and Adam Sinclair. Stockdale undertakes jazz and classical engagements with consummate ease. Swinging jazz piano playing will be on offer on the night at the Black Bull, Bridge Street, Blaydon.
The amiable Stockdale composes jazz tunes and some of them are sure to be heard in the Black Bull’s intimate lounge, as are standards, some of which are associated with Oscar Peterson. The great swinging style of the legendary Canadian pianist will reverberate across Blaydon on Sunday, March 19. Arrive early for an eight o’clock start. Five pounds on the door. Hugely recommended.
