Radio 4 Rounds off GIJF!

Radio 4 has accidently rounded off the GIJF with its ‘Book of the Week’ item (9.45am, Monday to Friday).  This is an account of the early life of Louis Armstrong.  So far it has concerned his playing with the King Oliver band, and his romances.  These excerpts from ‘Master of Modernism’ by Thomas Brothers will also be available on iplayer, so catch it there if you’re at work in the mornings.

Apart from the word "Jazz" and Lindsay Hannon singing Basin St. Blues at one of the late night jam sessions, this is probably the first time the BBC has selected a jazz book for its "Book of the Week" slot which, as AA says, "rounded off the GIJF" certainly for her if not for you Freddie.

And there's more...Blood Count, Radio 4, 2:15 pm this Friday is a play written by trumpeter Ian Smith about the relationship between Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. The GIJF link? Well, if you were at the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra's concert in Hall One you won't need any persuading!
