Bebop Spoken There

Tony Fisher: In the heyday of that scene [the1960s] there were about 120 musicians in London who did everything and of course, if you made a mistake you were never called again." - (Jazz Journal online, 19 September 2019).

The Things They Say!

Hudson Music: Lance's "Bebop Spoken Here" is one of the heaviest and most influential jazz blogs in the UK.

Rupert Burley (Dynamic Agency): "BSH just goes from strength to strength".

COFID- 19

In the current climate we are doing our best to keep everyone up to date. All gigs, as we all know, are off.

However, good old YouTube has plenty to offer both old and new to help us survive whilst housebound. Plus now is a good time to stock up on your CDs.

Also, keep an eye out for live streaming sessions.

Alternatively, you could do as they do in Italy and sing from your balcony.

Today

As we all know there are no live gigs taking place in the immediate future. However, any links to jazz streaming that are deemed suitable - i.e. with a professional approach - will be considered for posting.

My CDs of the Year

Impossible to pick one disc or even twenty but the the three highlighted below are my joint favourites:
Buck Clayton Legacy Band - Claytonia
Cécile McLorin Salvant - Womanchild
Tommy Smith - In The Spirit of Duke.
The following are within a whisker away:
Greg Abate Quartet - Time For Dave.
John Abercrombie Quartet - 39 Steps
All Hands on Deck - Man Overboard
Blue Touch Paper - Drawing Breath
Burak Bedikyan - Circle of Life
Rachael Cohen - Half Time
Kate Daniels - Atmospherics.
Brass Jaw - Minted.
Mike Jones Trio - Plays Well With Others.
Brian Molley - Clock.
Simon Spillett Quartet - Square One (cd/vinyl).
Then there are the reissues and now we're talking!
French New Wave - MJQ/Miles/Messengers/Solal/Wilen/Legrand.
Back Door - BBC in Concert. (vinyl)
Ronnie Scott Quintet - Featuring Alan Skidmore (vinyl)
I've deliberately excluded local north east artists so as to avoid suggestions of favouritism although the four, highly recommended discs below have, to a greater or lesser extent, common denominators amongst the personnel - a sort of musical incest;
ACV - Busk
Paul Edis - Just Like Me
Zoe Gilby - Twelve Stories
Saxophonics - The River Flows at Night.
So now let's have your selections!
Lance.
