This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. CD Review: David Bach - Other World.

David Bach (All keys inc synth's, Steinway Grand, Fender Rhodes, Hammond etc.). + Various instrumentalists.
What can I say about this? It's perfect. Ne'er a note out of place, foot tapping, shoulder moving, hip swinging rhythms - it's smooth. In fact it's so smooth it's like listening to one of those anonymous jazz radio stations that abound in cyber space. Think Spyra Giro, Kenny G, Snake Davis and you get the picture. Which isn't a bad picture but not an Oscar winning one.
Bach, like his namesake, is an excellent player of the various keyboards at his disposal and various saxophone players add to the smooth ambience but it comes over as just too slick, too clean-cut, too sanitised too - smooth.
If you're having a dinner party on the tenth floor, play it in the elevator. Play it during dinner or whilst serving cocktails. If you own a supermarket, play it at the meat counter after Xmas. Ideal upmarket disco music or for playing on the car stereo without risk of distraction. For those folk who like their jazz to be instantly accessible and ultimately forgettable you couldn't do better..
It's a smooth one but, unfortunately, not A Smo-o-o-oth One.
