This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Graham Don Trio @ The Cherry Tree

I started the evening with Braised Lamb Broth with Pearl Barley - not to be confused with the late Pearl Bailey. In the meantime, the trio played Wave. A gentle bossa that didn't disturb the diners and went down well with the aforementioned broth which was delicious.

Yesterdays featured a Neil Harland bass solo that blended in nicely with my Sauté of Beef, Gratin Dauphinoise and Green Peppercorns - almost like having an extra vegetable on the plate.
Graham Don brought his vocal chords into play on Moon Dance and later sang Georgia on my Mind - a la Ray Charles - and The Carpenters' Masquerade. Laura was given the romantic instrumental treatment, followed by a number that could have been Solar, Dolphin Dance or something entirely different. It was familiar but I couldn't place it.
Street Life coupled with Toffee and Pear Galette with Ice Cream was a tasty combination that worked well for me particularly when helped on its way by a bottle of Black Sheep.
Musically it wasn't an earth shattering evening. Not a jazz crowd by any means and the trio tactfully kept it low key - I'd like to hear Graham on an out and out jazz gig.
