The visit of these musicians attracted a good audience to the Club. We were delighted to welcome new Jazz enthusiasts who had heard Alyn Shipton on Radio 3 Jazz record requests mention Paul Edis, looked up the PE web discovering he was performing at our Club on Wednesday. This drew them to the venue and along with our regulars they were not disappointed for in adddition we had as vocalist with the Trio the incomparable Ruth Lambert.

The group offered a broad choice of musical delights presented with style and with exciting interpretations of recognized Jazz standards. Ruth has developed her voice over a number of years giving very professional singing portraits within her choice of lyrics.

The evening opened with an explosion with "Administrate This" and ended with an explosive version of "Caravan" leaving both musicians and audience exhausted and in no doubt that we all had an excellent evening of quality music.

Between these two numbers we were treated to a superb menu of ballads and for our delight the Trio excelled.

Adam at times aggressive but often gentle, Mick with arms around his bass as if he were cuddling his favourite teddy bear produced cleverly constructed solos and Paul crouching over his keyboard in a dominant manner totally in control.

We had a good night and for me personally Ruth's rendition of "How high the moon" seemed to recapture the sound and expertise of the June Christy Album of the 60's entitled "Something Cool" and she gave us an excellent version of the difficult ballad. Round Midnight". The trio also gave me enjoyment when producing "Some day my prince will come" which I remember on the Brubeck Album "Brubeck Plays Disney".

I have no hesitation in recommending  this combo to you so look out for it in the future You will not be disappointed.

Next meeting at the ELEPHANT is Wednesday 7th. November when our guests will be **** LICKERTY SPLIT****.
