This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Goodbye Mike Gilby

I've just received the sad news that Mike Gilby (pictured left) passed away peacefully this morning after a long illness. His family were at his bedside. Mike will be missed by all of the jazz and big band fraternity on Tyneside and far beyond.
Our thoughts are with the family.
Funeral details will be posted when known.

I am so sorry to hear about Mike I knew him for many years - jazz clubs etc - spoke a few times and he was a gent one of the best flugel horn players Ive heard. What a miss he will be he loved for his music. Deepest sympathy to all family,

So sorry I cannot make the funeral Zoe we are looking after grand children in the morning and Budvivar has the Chilli gig in the evening I would have loved to play in the pub at cullercoats. Deep sympathys again. regards Eric m Stutt
