The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Andy's Anecdotes

Andy Hudson, during his tenure co-promoting the JVC Jazz Festival with George Wein, rubbed shoulders with many of the jazz greats. Andy re-calls Teddy Wilson going up to the resident pianist in the Grosvenor House lounge and correcting the changes that he was playing; " Excuse me Sir" - he said to a shocked pianist - "That should be a C minor 9." "Why - how does that fit?" "Like this" - Wilson leans over and plays it." "How d'you know that?" "I wrote it!" He didn't, says Andy, as in fact it was a Rogers and Hart number- but he had completely re-arranged it for an R & H Album - released, he thinks, on the Chiaroscuro Label. (Correct Andy - 1977). Andy also recalls Ella insisting he drive to Birmingham with her in her Rolls Royce. I'm sure he has a million more memories to share. Lance.
