This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Andy's Anecdotes

Andy Hudson, during his tenure co-promoting the JVC Jazz Festival with George Wein, rubbed shoulders with many of the jazz greats. Andy re-calls Teddy Wilson going up to the resident pianist in the Grosvenor House lounge and correcting the changes that he was playing; " Excuse me Sir" - he said to a shocked pianist - "That should be a C minor 9." "Why - how does that fit?" "Like this" - Wilson leans over and plays it." "How d'you know that?" "I wrote it!" He didn't, says Andy, as in fact it was a Rogers and Hart number- but he had completely re-arranged it for an R & H Album - released, he thinks, on the Chiaroscuro Label. (Correct Andy - 1977). Andy also recalls Ella insisting he drive to Birmingham with her in her Rolls Royce. I'm sure he has a million more memories to share. Lance.
