Bebop Spoken There

Joel Harrison: “It’s incredibly hard to play bebop on guitar, harder than on saxophone.” – (Jazz Times August 2015)

Mambo Jambo

Welcome to the first Jazz @ Mambos event.
This is the first in a monthly serving of Jazz and Swing to the South Shields area.
Held in the idyllic settings of Mambo Wine and Dine in South Shields, guests can sip on a range of fantastic cocktails whilst, at the same time, listening to some of the finest Jazz the North has to offer.

With vocals from Paul Skerritt, one of the key male Jazz vocalists in the area, paired with the sublime talent of his partner in crime from The Paul Skerritt Band, James Harrison on piano, it promises to be an evening not to be missed.
It's free entry, so pop in, grab a Mojito and take a seat for an evening filled with some of the finest music around.
-----
(Editor); Mambo Wine and Dine began life as the British Legion Club - the Chic Cole Trio were resident for quite awhile. Later, it became the Arbeia Bar and Restaurant with a Romanesque theme that failed to pull the punters into the chariot park. Let's hope that this latest incantation is more successful. Certainly if anyone can do it it's Skerritt and Harrison (pictured).
Paul Skerritt/James Harrison are at Mambo Wine and Dine on Saturday, March 26.
Mambo Wine and Dine,
18-20 Winchester St.,
South Shields,
NE 53 2PS.
8pm. Free.

Bebop Spoken Here -- Here, being the north-east of England -- centred in the blues heartland of Newcastle and reaching down to the Tees Delta and looking upwards to the Land of the Kilt.
Not a very original title, I know; not even an accurate one as my taste, whilst centred around the music of Bird and Diz, extends in many directions and I listen to everything from King Oliver to Chick Corea and beyond. Not forgetting the Great American Songbook the contents of which has provided the inspiration for much great jazz and quality popular singing for round about a century.
The idea of this blog is for you to share your thoughts and pass on your comments on discs, gigs, jazz - music in general. If you've been to a gig/concert or heard a CD that knocked you sideways please share your views with us. Tell us about your favourites, your memories, your dislikes.
