As this was the band's first public performance as a quartet I think it would be fair, and not disparaging, to describe the gig as a work in progress. There were teething problems which I'm sure will be ironed out. Indeed some of them, most notably the overpowering backing that had marred the first set, had been improved come the second and we, the audience and myself, were able to enjoy the Jason Isaacs we know and love.
He was in good voice delivering the tried and tested along with some tentative steps into uncharted waters. Without the big band backing it allowed him to blow more tenor which he does well although by his own admission on previous gigs he'll admit he's no Lewis Watson just as I'm sure Lewis will admit that, as a singer, he is no Jason Isaacs (prove me wrong Lewis!)
The trio, effectively the big band's rhythm section, once the balance was sorted, did a good job.
Twenty Five showstoppers (well 26 for those of us privileged to see videos of Jason's 8 month old daughter Elizabeth),
Jason is back at Pilgrim on Dec. 7 - this time with the big band. Anticipate another sold-out gig so don't take a chance, if you want to dance, book in advance. Lance
