This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. R.I.P. Dusko Goykovich

Sad to learn of the passing of Serbian/Yugoslav trumpet ace Dusko Goykovich on April 5.

I have fond memories of hearing him with Woody Herman at Newcastle City Hall in the mid-sixties as well as on record with the Clarke-Boland Band. Truly one of the greats.

He was 91. The man may be gone but the music lives on. Lance

Fond memories of hearing Dusko Goykovich with the Sid Warren Quintet at the Corner House, Newcastle in 1988.

Sad news. He played a gig at a pub called the Ash, Reddish near Stockport alongside Gianni
Basso the great Italian tenorman. At the interval they came to my table and I had a short chat with Dusko. I told him I enjoyed his Bass Blues a tune that I used to play on occasion. It was a great gig but hardly any audience. That was a good jazz venue while it lasted. I think the pub is still there.
