To quote from the blurb: "Finzer crafts a thematically and psychologically penetrating work - one that explores the role of the muse in creative inspiration. As per dreams, visions, illusions' title, he trisected this concept and shone it through the lens of creative and professional labor".
I mean to say, how can I follow such words of wisdom? - even if I knew what they meant!
So, I'll just let my ears do the talking and say, unequivocally, that Finzer is one of the best jazz trombone players that I've heard on the current scene with a technique and a tone that transports past greats such as JJ and Urbie into the twenty-first century. The compositions too offer proof that he is also well schooled in that area.
Surrounded by five good men and true, irrespective of the hype, this is as good an example of contemporary jazz today which, despite the label - Outside in Music - is well within and none the worse for that. Lance
