This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Rendezvous Jazz News

Drummer/vocalist George Davidson has retired from the north east music scene. He originally played in local dance bands, before joining Brian Carrick's band, then Maureen Hall’s Rendezvous jazz. We wish George all the best after a long stint.

Also trombone player Don Fairley has called it a day due to health problems. Don is a splendid trombonist and has played in just about every big and small band in the North, his latest residency was also with Rendezvous Jazz and he will be sadly missed by the band and their regular supporters.

Regarding replacements, that excellent drummer Scott Adair takes over the drum chair every Friday lunchtime at the Monkseaton Arms, Whitley Bay, and Gordon Solomon will replace Don. 

Rendezvous Jazz now comprises Maureen Hall (vocals/leader), Gavin Lee (reeds), Gordon Solomon (trombone), Brian Chester (keyboard), Tom Darbyshire (string bass), Scott Adair (drums). Guest vocalist John Broddle is also featured. The band also play on the first Saturday of the month at the Red Lion in Earsdon, 8:00pm start. The next session at Earsdon is on 3rd December which will be the band’s Christmas party night. Admission is £3.00 which includes a buffet. Gordon S
